How many Akfix PU foam cartridges for your project?
Quickly estimate the number of Akfix PU foam cartridges needed based on the volume to fill (window/door joints, cavity filling, insulation, fixings). Calculation based on official Akfix yields (TDS).
Site parameters
Joint = calculated by perimeter × cross-section. Volume = enter the 3 cavity dimensions directly.
E.g.: window perimeter 1.20 × 1.50 m = 5.4 linear meters
E.g.: technical cavity 50 × 50 × 30 cm = 75 litres to fill
E.g.: 10 identical windows to seal = 10
Effective yield varies by product (official Akfix TDS).

PU foam best practices on site
Dampen the substrates
PU foam cures through moisture. Lightly misting substrates before application improves adhesion and speeds up curing. On dry concrete or in hot weather (Marrakech, Agadir), this step is essential.
Fill to 60% only
PU foam expands 30 to 50% after application. Filling 100% in one pass = overflow, pressure on frames (distortion of aluminium/PVC joinery), waste.
Cartridge upside down
The cartridge must always be inverted (valve pointing down), otherwise the propellant escapes before the foam and the cartridge is wasted. This applies to all five Akfix references.
Maintained gun = +30% yield
For pistolable versions (805P / 820P / 967P), clean the gun with Akfix Foam Cleaner after each extended session to extend its lifespan and maintain nominal flow.
