Technical terms
Key terms in the sector
Concise definitions of the most common abbreviations and technical terms you encounter on our technical sheets, Akkim documentation, or in construction tenders in Morocco.
ISO 11600
International standard defining building sealant elasticity (classes 7.5 / 12.5 / 20 / 25). LM = low modulus, HM = high modulus.
EN 204 (D3, D4)
Wood adhesive classification by humidity resistance. D3 = cyclic humidity (interior + protected exterior). D4 = permanent water (marine joinery).
EN 13501-1 B1
European fire reaction classification. B1 = hard to ignite. Mandatory for ERP buildings open to public in Morocco.
NF EN 14680
French/European standard for PVC pipe assembly under pressure. Reference for cold chemical welding plumbing.
ETA Option 1
European Technical Approval for chemical anchoring in cracked concrete. Higher commitment than Option 7 (non-cracked concrete only).
MS Polymer
Modified Silane sealants. Hybrid technology combining silicone flexibility and PU adhesion. No isocyanates, no solvents, paintable.
PU (polyurethane)
Flexible polymer with excellent adhesion on porous substrates (concrete, wood, metals). Contains isocyanates (handling with gloves).
Neutral vs acetic silicone
Neutral (alkoxy/oxime) does not release acetic acid during curing — compatible with all metals. Acetic releases acetic acid (vinegar smell) — attacks unprotected metals and marble.
FDS (Safety Data Sheet)
Safety data sheet according to REACH regulation. Legal document describing risks, precautions, first aid, storage and disposal of chemical product.
TDS (Technical Data Sheet)
Manufacturer's official document describing specifications (density, viscosity, temperature range, adhesion, packaging). Essential for public tenders and municipal markets.
CE marking
European compliance approval for construction products exposed in European public spaces.
Drive-Away Time
Safe operating time of vehicle after windshield bonding. Depends on ambient humidity and temperature. Critical for body shop work.
Curing
Chemical reaction transforming liquid polymer into solid rubbery material. Can be triggered by humidity (mono-component) or catalyst (bi-component).
Initial tack
Initial bonding force of sealant-adhesive immediately after application. High = supports heavy panels without support (High Tack). Low = repositioning possible.
Shore A
Hardness measurement unit for elastomers. Shore A 25 = very flexible (silicone). Shore A 60-70 = medium (PU). Shore A 90+ = hard.
Thermal range
Continuous service temperature range of a product. Critical in Morocco: south facing facade in Marrakech reaches +75°C in summer, mountain location in Atlas -10°C in winter.
